The Knoxville Rotary Club is sponsoring a film raising awareness for human trafficking in Iowa at the Grand Theater today.

The film “Gridshock” is a documentary with an aim to raise awareness of how Iowans can impact this growing crime. The film will help residents identify human trafficking, learn warning signs, become educated, and teach how to stand against it in their communities. Gridshock will be showing from 9:30-11:00 am and is considered appropriate for those 16 years and older. Pennie Sommar with the Knoxville Rotary Club says that Rotary continues to do events like this to help raise awareness.

“About a year ago, Rotary took on the initiative to fight this human trafficking battle, so we have set up our own groups that meet regularly and we’ve worked on legislative issues and a number of things. We’re hosting events like this and others throughout the state continuously.”

Following the movie, there will be a Q&A session with Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt and the Knoxville Police Department will also be in attendance.
