The Martensdale-St. Mary’s softball team dropped a heartbreaker in the class 1A championship game Friday evening 3-2 to Sigourney. The Savages got up early 1-0 on a solo homerun in the first inning, but the Blue Devils fought back to lead 2-1 after the second inning. That score held until the 7th inning, when the Blue Devils made defensive miscues and were unable to get out of the inning before a two-RBI double with two outs put Sigourney ahead and held on to win the contest and the championship.
