Claiming the number ten spot for PCM top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is the PCM girls basketball team winning seven games in a row.
The impressive winning streak for the Mustangs started early in the season. The PCM girls lost their first game of the season by six points to Chariton and then their streak started in game two. During the winning streak, the Mustangs defeated Knoxville 48-38, Pella Christian 52-35, Greene County 56-23, Saydel 49-26, West Marshall 52-35, North Mahaska 41-32, and Perry 46-19.
It really was a winning streak of domination as the Mustangs outscored their opponents 298-208 during the seven games with six of the seven games being double digit margins. The win against Saydel on December 2nd took place at Wells Fargo Arena. PCM Coach Sami Allison-Rodriquez said after one of the games during the winning streak that her team has been able to take control of games.
“We just talk about every single day we’re trying to get better so whether we have practice or whether we have a game we’re trying to improve and I feel like we did that tonight. Sometimes you play a game like this and it gets sloppy or you get sloppy, and you have turnovers or silly mistakes and I think that maturity kind of stepped up at least in the second half. It felt like we took care of the ball, and we had good opportunities to the basket and we haven’t done that the last couple years so that’s exciting to see. We took control of the game and we kept it.”
The PCM Girls Basketball team finished the season with a 15-7 overall record.
