Claiming the number ten spot for Pleasantville top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is the Pleasantville Boys Basketball team defeating 17-3 Roland-Story on the road in the postseason to earn a trip to the district finals.
In the game held on February 15th, the Trojans led the 17-3 Norseman 21-13 at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime tied 29-29. Pleasantville outscored Roland-Story in the third and fourth quarter to defeat the Norseman 65-58 in the district semifinals game. The Trojans were led in scoring by senior Trent Jolly who put up 26 points in his best offensive performance of the season. Pleasantville Coach Taylor Phipps spoke after the game about some of his players who weren’t typically leading scorers for the Trojans stepping up big in the game.
“These guys work hard everyday, and just the last couple of days we have tried to instill confidence in them and we knew they were going to get some open shots in this game, and they really stepped up and played big minutes for us.”
Pleasantville later fell to South Hamilton in the District Final 65-57 to end an impressive postseason run.
