The Simpson softball team had their best season in years, finishing with a record of 27-13, and a semifinals appearance in the American Rivers Conference tournament. The Storm got off to a rocky start, going 5-4 in their non-conference matchup before a matchup with one of the best teams in the country in Belhaven. The Storm fell in that game, which was heated on both sides, 5-4, but it brought with it a new sense of confidence for the young squad. After the loss to Belhaven, Simpson went on to win 18-games in a row including a 6-0 start in conference. Head coach Brent Matthias said that loss led to a culture shift in the program, where the team meant more than the individual and they all have each other’s back.
“It’s just a different type of culture this year, everybody wants to fight for each other. And they are happy for everybody else’s success. That’s a big thing that we talk about alot.”
The Storm were one of the final teams out of the national tournament, but bring back eight of their top nine hitters.
