One of the most decorated women’s distance runners in Central College’s history, Caroline McMartin was named a winner of an NCAA postgraduate scholarship for athletics and academic excellence.

The Pella native is Central’s 27th winner of the NCAA postgraduate scholarship since 1970, when former NFL star Vern Den Herder was honored. She is Central’s first recipient since Will Daniels represented the men’s track and field program in 2020. It’s the 10th selection for a member of Central’s track and field program. McMartin earned All-America honors at six different NCAA Division III Championships during her career at Central. In her senior season, Caroline finished 12th at the National Cross Country Meet and was also a national runner-up in the distance medley relay at the Indoor Track and Field Championships and the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She also won a pair of American Rivers Conference titles in the indoor mile and the outdoor 1500 meters. She holds seven school records across the three sports and earned eight all-region selections and 10 all-conference honors during her career.

A two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, McMartin graduated with a 3.98 GPA as a biology major and is headed to dental school at the University of Iowa.
