A Knoxville man has been charged with felony criminal mischief after alleged vehicle vandalism early Friday morning.

According to court records, on July 26th at 2:34 am, Knoxville Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Marion St. and Attica Rd. for a report of a vehicle being vandalized. The reporting party stated that two males took off running westbound on Marion St and described one of the males as having black and white hair. This fit the description of 18-year-old Zachary Rankin according to Officer Joe Weppler. The reporting party was then able to positively identify Rankin as the one vandalizing the vehicle due to a Facebook image.

Officer Weppler located Rankin on Sunday where he was interviewed about the incident. Rankin denied having any involvement with the alleged vandalism  or being in the area at the time of the incident. The vehicle had a broken rear driver’s side window, two large dents on the driver’s side door, and rear driver’s side door. The cost to repair the vehicle is estimated at approximately $3,000.

Rankin is charged with Second Degree Criminal Mischief which is a Class D felony. Rankin is being held in the Marion County Jail on a $5,000 bond and is due in court on August 8th for a preliminary hearing.
