Continuing our top ten sports moments for the past school year at Knoxville we go back a couple of months to May 31st in Centerville. The Knoxville Softball Squad was in the midst of a fast start in the South Central Conference but the Panthers had to do a little extra work on that Friday night to get conference win number four. The game was scoreless until the 11th inning when the Panthers put up two runs and had to hold on in the bottom half of the 11 to win 2-1. The Dunkin Sisters, Addi and Hannah did their part at the plate, but it was the pitching combination of Charlye Willis and Ciara Heffron that shutout the Reddetts. Willis got the win going ten innings. Coach Chris Peden told KNIA/KRLS Sports about midway through the game, Willis had him convinced she was going to get the job done with help from her defense.
Peden: “That was also a night our defense was on points. Charlye had just 2 strikeouts, but our defense made plays. I think Marlea had three straight balls come to her. That proved to our defense after struggles with Washington that we could be locked in and play good defense.”
Knoxville would go on to finish in 2nd place in the South Central Conference this summer and have an overall 11-14 record.
