The new splash pad in Knoxville’s Veterans District continues to remain busy and is seeing strong crowds, especially during times of excessive heat.

The splash pad officially opened in the middle of May and has seen a consistent flow of youth from all over the area and beyond. Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers spoke at a city council meeting and said that he was amazed at all the different counties on the license plates who are parked at the splash pad. Nemmers reminds residents that when using the splash pad children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper, there is no running, no food or drink is allowed, and no glass containers are allowed.

“It’s pretty unique. Folks that haven’t seen it drive past there and try to figure out what’s going on, because we have canoes sticking out, trees, all kinds of crazy stuff there. It’s just nice to have an outdoor water feature, and we just hope people respect that area.”

The water features can be activated between 9:00 am – 9:00 pm seven days a week by pressing the button on the blue bollard. Bathrooms next to the splash pad are also open and available to the public during hours of operation.
