Claiming the number eight spot for PCM top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is the PCM boys basketball team scoring 90 points in a rout of Chariton.
In their last game before Christmas, the Mustangs defeated the Chargers 90-71 in a dominant offensive performance. Gavin Van Gorp had 29 points in the game while senior Jake Wendt had 22 points and 15 rebounds to record a double double. Twelve different PCM players entered the contest with eight of them scoring points. Coach Tony Ford says he was happy to see so many guys step up.
“I don’t think we get to 90 without playing the nine or ten guys we played tonight with regular minutes. Also, I don’t think we can play the defense we do without certain guys. We scrimmage regularly against each other and sometimes I never know who’s going to win when we scrimmage against each other. We really have a lot of good players on our team.”
The Mustangs went on to finish with a 10-13 overall record.
