The Indianola City Council approved the public hearing date regarding the proposed ordinance on chicken ownership within city limits to August 19th.
The original date of the hearing was during the regular meeting earlier this week, however City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the meeting was moved not because of the public hearing on chickens, but because staff needed extra time to make sure they would be ready for a possible ballot initiative for the November election.
“Because we are so actively working on our plans and designs and getting ready for the upcoming election, we needed that time. So we ended up postponing the public hearing on the chicken ordinance because we wanted to make sure we had a time when people felt like they could come out and not be rushed and be able to share their thoughts and opinions on this very passionate issue for our community. So that will be on August 19th.”
