The Marion County Emergency Management Agency has seen relatively low response activity despite 2024 being one of the most active severe weather years in Iowa history.
Associate Coordinator Emily Feagins says that in the midst of the sixth wettest July, their agency has seen little impact from several severe weather warnings this spring and summer. Feagins says the agency is grateful that the area has avoided major widespread damage from numerous systems.
“Thankfully, it has been a very, very active storm season, but it hasn’t been anything extreme. We’ll knock on wood, we’ve had a few close calls, but for the most part everything’s been pretty decent. We’ve got all the warnings and the watches that continue to get issued, and it’s just a matter of monitoring.”
