The City of Monroe’s annual Old Settlers celebration begins tonight and runs through Saturday.
The theme for this year is Christmas in August, and activities begin at 6:00 tonight with a pitch tournament at the Gathering Place. On Friday, festivities begin at 6 pm with night volleyball and a foam party, and also include the children’s parade, doubles horseshoes, water fights, a demolition derby, live music from the Pork Tornadoes, and more. Festivities will resume on Saturday morning with the Methodist Church Pancake breakfast at 6:30 am. Other events scheduled for Saturday morning include the car show, the MAMM Road Race, the tractor show, a three on three basketball tournament and more. Saturday afternoon events will feature the watermelon feed, the pet parade, the flag ceremony, and award presentations. The event concludes Saturday night with the parade, the parade awards, and the announcing of the raffle and quilt raffle winners.
