The #7 moment on our countdown of the top 10 sports stories at Pella Christian during the 2023-2024 school year takes us back to Friday, January 28th, as the Pella Christian boys basketball team celebrated homecoming with a hard fought 53-51 victory over Grand View Christian.

In a clash of Class 2A powers, the Thunder opened the game with a 7-1 lead, only for the Eagles to battle back with a 13-5 run to lead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. Another scoring run late in the second quarter gave Pella Christian a 31-25 lead at halftime. Out of the break, Grand View Christian got off to another great start, outscoring the Eagles 20-8 in the third quarter to hold a 45-39 lead heading into the final eight minutes. The game remained tight down the stretch, but Josiah Vos’ three pointer with 1:27 left in the game put Pella Christian ahead for good as they held on for the two-point win. Vos led the scoring effort for the Eagles with 21 points, while Tysen De Vries added 11 in the victory.

Pella Christian ended the season with an 18-6 overall record and reached the Class 2A Substate  Finals for the third consecutive season.
