The Marion County 8-man championship was being controlled by Melcher-Dallas. In fact the saints had won five meetings in a row and some of the games were not close. However, in 2023, the Sabers finally got the better of their arch-rivals in a 28-18 victory on September 15th. While the Sabers were out-gained 246-203, Twin Cedars took advantage of two Melcher-Dallas interceptions. Offensively the Sabers did most of the work on the ground gaining 179 yards, led by Dallas Smith carrying the ball seven times for 89 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
