Claiming the number six spot for Pleasantville top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is senior basketball player Dayson Leerhoff reaching 1,000 career points.

Leerhoff reached the historic mark in a game on February 1st against Albia. Leerhoff was able to reach the 1,000 point mark in just three seasons with the Trojans as he was not able to play his freshman year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Leerhoff was also a second team selection for all state football this year and has been a dominating force for the Trojans on the gridiron and hardwood. Leerhoff says it’s a blessing to now be in the Pleasantville history books.

“It’s a great thing. It’s something I really didn’t imagine coming into it because I wasn’t able to play my freshman year because of Covid. Sophomore year I came in and had a big role on the team and was able to rack up some points then. My junior year I was able to continue that and it has been a blessing to be able to continue that and be in the history of Pleasantville.”

Leerhoff averaged 20.7 points per game for the Trojans in his senior season and helped lead his team to the district finals. Leerhoff will continue his athletic career at Briar Cliff University to play football.
