We have mentioned the numbers 10-6 on our Top Ten Sports Moments from Knoxville High School this school year. Today we take a look at the honorable mention moments. While these were also very good and memorable moments in Knoxville sports they were just outside of the top ten. We go back to October 10th when Knoxville Runner Isaac Rankin won the South Central Conference individual title in cross country. He ran a time of 16:18 and was at that time a personal record. Rankin automatically earned all conference. Joining Rankin on the all-South Central Conference team was Cael Cook as he placed 7th in a time of 17:01. Both will be juniors this fall for the Panthers and are expected to lead the Panthers this season. Another moment on the Knoxville honorable mention was on May 9th when Ciara Heffron in both the shot put and discus along with Cael Irving in the 800, Koby Higginbotham in the 110 high hurdles and 400 low hurdles all qualified for the class 3A State Meet. Irving told KNIA/KRLS Sports after automatically qualifying in the State Qualifying meet it was a relief to not have to worry about being an at large entry.
Irving: “I just feel like it’s a weight off my shoulders and I don’t have to wait and I can focus on next week.”
More on Heffron’s State Meet later in the countdown. Higginbotham would finish 11th in the 400 low hurdles in a time of :55.98. We will unveil the top five moments at Knoxville from this past school year starting with #5 on Monday.
