After a successful year of PCM athletics last school year there are a couple moments that were left off of our top ten countdown list that started this past week and will continue next week. Before the countdown continues on Monday, here are three honorable mentions.

PCM Football Shuts Out Interstate 35 in the Opening Round of Class 2A Playoffs

The PCM football team shut out Interstate 35 42-0 in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs on October 20th.

The Mustangs were firing on all cylinders in the contest led by senior wide receiver Griffin Olson, who reeled in four touchdown catches on the night. PCM quarterback Gavin Van Gorp also connected with  tight end Jack Jungling for a fifth passing touchdown and junior running back Adrien Robbins also found the endzone. The Mustang defense pitched their first shutout of the season, keeping the Roadrunners’ passing attack in check all night. In the second half, PCM’s backup defensive unit maintained the shutout against the I35 starters. The Mustangs scored on all but one offensive drive in the game, and PCM Head Football Coach Greg Bonnett said he was pleased with his team’s performance.

“Top to bottom I thought we looked pretty good. I thought our sideline was really into it and everyone knew what was going on. We had the presence of mind to just go out there and get a stance and make a lot of plays. We got a shutout which is kind of important and we wanted that. We wanted a breakout game where we could get a shutout. We wanted that right now.”

The Mustangs shutout Mid-Prairie 36-0 in the second round of the playoffs the following week.

PCM Volleyball Sweeps Chariton in Regional Quarterfinals

The PCM volleyball team swept Chariton in their home class 3A Region 6 quarterfinal match on October 17th 3-0.

The Mustangs came out strong against the Chargers, and won the first set in commanding fashion 25-17. PCM continued their dominance in sets two and three, defeating Chariton 25-17 and 25-12 to close out the match and complete the sweep. The Mustangs fell to Mid-Prairie in the regional semifinals.

PCM Girls Cross Country Enters the Rankings for the First Time Since 2017

The Mustang girls cross country team entered the state rankings for the first time since 2017. PCM found themselves ranked #14 in the poll released in mid-September. The PCM girls fell just short of a trip to the state meet as a team. Lila Milani did qualify as an individual.
