It may have been night time, and the LED lights lit up the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday for the final night of the 34th Annual Xtreme by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals, but it will go down as the night Sunshine lit up the night sky as Tyler Courtney, who is nicknamed “Sunshine” in only his fourth 360 race of the season won the 360 Nationals taking home a winner’s check for $30,000. Courtney led lap one of the A-Main, but pole sitter Emerson Axsom was setting a blistering pace until he encountered lapped traffic. Axsom was held up by a lapped car on lap 12 and that allowed Courtney to sneak by and take the lead for good. Courtney said in victory lane it was a confidence boost knowing with the Capitani Classic tonight and the Knoxville Nationals next week.

Courtney: “Any confidence in any kind of race car whether it’s a 360 or 410 and especially going into the hardest race of the year with 80 cars, you have to get qualified good and get through your heat, so we’ll just use that as more laps for Thursday.”

Axsom settled for 2nd while Austin McCarl took 3rd place. As mentioned, tonight is the 4th of eight nights of racing at the Knoxville Raceway as the 12th Annual Avanti Windows and Doors Capitani Classic. Live coverage can be heard on KNIA with Live Track Side at 5:00 and Race Nights Live at 7:00.
