Claiming the number five spot for Pleasantville top sports stories of the 2023-2024 school year is Kurt Kuhnen qualifying for the state cross country meet. 

Kuhnen qualified at the state qualifying meet held on October 19th at Central Decatur. Kuhnen finished tenth overall with a time of 17:33.08 to punch his ticket to the state meet in Fort Dodge, which is a continuation of his impressive 2023 season. The Pleasantville boys finished 10th as a team with 247 points. The girls squad did not have a qualifier but they finished fifth as a team with 139 points and saw strong performances from Kyleigh McConnell, who finished 21st with a time of 21:58.68, and Carly Gripp, who finished 28th with a time of 22:40.39. 

Kuhnen finished 72nd at the state meet with a time of 17:59.
