The #3 moment for Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas on our top ten countdown is for the Sabers. Twin Cedars Softball has dominated the Bluegrass Conference over the years and after midseason losses to Murray and Ankeny Christian, the Sabers found themselves behind the eight-ball playing ACA again for a winner-take-all conference title game. The Sabers drubbed the Eagles less than a week after falling 9-1, winning the return game 13-3. Jillian French and Cristen Durian hit back-to-back home runs to seal the win and for the sixth straight season, the Sabers were Bluegrass Conference champions. Coach Zack Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS after getting a rude awakening in the first game, his team was ready for revenge.
Dunkin: “We were questioning ourselves a little bit. We didn’t really do anything well in that game, and we came back with a vengeance and turned it around, you know our goal is to always win the conference.”
The Sabers would go on to get to its third straight class 1A regional final ultimately losing to Wayne.
