A fantastic season culminating in six individual and relay State Championships for the Pella Christian girls track and field team claims the top spot on our countdown of the top ten sports stories from the 2023-2024 school year on Eagle Lane.

Kicking off the State Track and Field meet in style on May 16th, sophomore Bailey Vos won the 400 meter dash with a time of :57.08, giving the Eagle girls their first individual state champion since 1980. Not satisfied with just one State Title, the Pella Christian girls added to the trophy case by winning the 4×200 meter relay with a new State Meet record of 1:39.72. In the pursuit of the overall Team State Championship on May 18th, the Eagles continued to dominate their events, adding four individual and relay State Titles. Claiming the four victories on Championship Saturday were the Sprint Medley Relay team (1:46.05), Rachel Kacmarynski in the 100 meter dash (12.61), Meredith Van Wyk in the 200 meter dash (25.24), and the 4×400 meter relay team (3:56.61). Vos said that it was an incredible feeling to see the team’s success against the best athletes in Class 2A.

“It’s amazing. I’m just grateful that I get to run with my favorite girls, supported by my favorite coaches, on my favorite track, and I wouldn’t have any other way. And it’s definitely not us, it’s our talent we were given from God. So, just thankful for the opportunity to glorify Him on the track.”

The six individual and relay State Championships won by the Pella Christian girls provided the program a runner-up finish in the overall team standings.
