New playground equipment is fully installed at West Elementary School in Knoxville.
At a December school board meeting, the board approved a bid from Play-Pro Recreation for new playground equipment at the school for $339,000. Committees at West Elementary School have been working toward that goal for two years, as the old playground was not suitable for the district and a safety hazard for children. The new playground equipment will be more accessible to children that are wheelchair bound and has a foundation that is easier to maintain. The Knoxville Community School District posted a video on social media of kids playing on the new equipment which said “Our new playground is a testament to our commitment to providing a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for all students.” KCSD Business Manager Craig Mobley says there will be a formal ribbon cutting later in the month.
“It is fully functional and fully safe for kids to play on. We’ve had our Stepping Stones Kids Club program kids playing on it and they’re having a blast and seem to really enjoy it. We will plan on having a ribbon cutting ceremony for it sometime in the later half of August.”
