Heading into his 5th season as Newton’s head football coach, Andy Swedenhjelm has already put a lot of effort into getting parents and fans involved in the program. One of the ways the Dowling Catholic Alum has done that during a season is through an open to the public Coaches Corner one Thursday every month.

“Parents come and we break down some film and things we have been doing. We talk about some schematic things we do and bigger things we do as a program. We’ve had some really great parents involved.”

Swedenjhelm says some parents helped him establish a “Touchdown Club” which assists with organizing community events and team meals, and has raised money to help acquire new equipment. The coach notes they had a financial hand in getting the new sideline TV system the team will use this year.
