A Newton woman faces two felony charges for allegedly stealing about $3000 from her dependent mother’s bank account. Newton Police filed a criminal complaint in Jasper County District Court late last week against 43-year-old Jessica Jennell Reed. In it, officers say there’s bank security camera video from this past April and May of Reed using her mom’s bank card to make illegal withdrawals. Newton Police also claim Reed has admitted using some of the money for herself.  She’s charged with Dependent Adult Abuse (Class D Felony) and 2nd Degree Theft Against an Older Individual (Class C Felony. Newton Police allege Reed periodically checked her mother out of Newton Health Care, and became her temporary caregiver. They note Reed’s mom suffers from a stage of dementia and has problems with her memory. Court records show Reed has posted a $10,000 bond, and is free awaiting a preliminary hearing this coming Monday, August 19th.
