Pella Christian Schools has announced that both the high school and grade school campuses will be cellphone free for students when they return to school later this month.
Head of Schools Dan Zylstra says that while cellphones can provide positive benefits, they can also have negative effects on the student experience. Zylstra also says that the Smart Device Policy is an intentional step to allow students and faculty to flourish in academics and mental and social health.
“They’re going to turn in their phones at the beginning of the day, and they can retrieve them when they leave. There’s more and more research coming out that it’s in students best interest for learning and social and emotional health, to not have cell phones on them during the school day, so they can focus on relationships and on learning. We’re going to join the many other high schools around the country that are doing this and we’re going to be cellphone free.”
