Providers at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics are reminding families to schedule well child exams for their children ahead of the upcoming school year.
Certain immunizations are required for children based on their age before they head back to school and sports physicals are required for students wanting to participate in school sponsored athletics. The hospital also always recommends everyone to see their primary care doctor once a year and to make sure they are seen before school starts. Dr. Tim McCoy at KHC says it’s best to get in as soon as possible as most provider’s schedules fill up this time of year.
“School nurses are actually looking right now at a child’s immunizations as they are going into their next grade and they can sometimes pick up that a child needs to be seen and get a specific immunization or they won’t let them into school.”
