For many years, Pella Middle School has worked to connect students through service to the community and the greater world beyond Pella. Whether it’s been the social studies concession stand that leads to thousands in charitable giving, Meals from the Heartland packing, or the efforts of the Pella Middle School student council, 7th and 8th grade students have stayed engaged with helping others. Principal Scott Tjeerdsma says in the coming academic year, efforts through their Leader in Me program will expand those types of opportunities to all students in the building on a more consistent basis. Tjeerdsma says learning about helping others is critical at all ages, but especially in middle school, as children begin to develop their adult personalities.
