The second phase of the resurfacing of Jasper County Highway F-48 West from Newton to Colfax will include a safety modification. The first phase of the project from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge just north of Interstate 80 was unofficially opened by the County last Thursday August 8th. Plans for the second phase from the bridge to Colfax were presented to the County Supervisors by County Engineer Michael Frietsch Tuesday morning, and were approved.
“This includes the realignment of 92nd Street and 28th Avenue. So instead of two legs coming out of that curve, there will be one. We are basically rebuilding the whole intersection to make sure we can get appropriate sight distance there. 92nd will “T” into 28th Avenue and then you will go left to get onto F-48 West”
Frietsch told the Supervisors he expects the approximate three mile project to cost $3 million. He says bids will be sought in November so the resurfacing can take place when the construction season begins next year. The Supervisors also approved the purchase of just under $622,000 of steel from Oden Enterprises of Wahoo, Nebraska for three future bridge replacement projects.
