The Indianola School Board met in regular session Tuesday, approving the use of a therapy dog by the Indianola Middle School Mental Health Team. Superintendent Tara Paul tells KNIA News this is not a district program, but required district approval.

“We actually approved this because it is an outside entity bringing the therapy dog into the school system. We have guiding policies for internal therapy and service animals, however Mercy One brings their service dog in as they are a provider in our schools. So this just gives them the ok to do that and to have the therapy dog in the middle school office when the service providers are on site. So the board gave that approval, we think that is a good thing and kids enjoy having animals around.”
