The City of Knoxville has received an extension for their thriving community designation for another year by the Iowa Finance Authority.
The City of Knoxville was designated as a thriving community for 2024 and will now keep that designation through the next year, along with six other communities. Along with the recognition, this designation comes with valuable scoring points for the Federal Housing Tax Credit and Workforce Housing Tax Credit programs, effective through 2025. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this extension for Knoxville is significant as they have three substantial housing project applications in for this year with a new Kading housing development, new homes in the Veterans District from Origin Homes, and a development with Heugerich Holdings LLC. for new apartments and townhomes in the Veterans District. Ussery says the City is anxiously waiting to hear the outcomes of these applications and the announcement should be made in a matter of days.
Communities who received new Thriving Community designations for 2025 are Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Newton, Mason City, and Waterloo.
