Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and LifeServe Blood Center will hold a blood drive on August 29th.
This drive will be held at the hospital from 1:00-5:00 pm at the learning center. LifeServe Blood Center, ranked as one of the top 15 blood centers in the country, is the sole supplier of all blood and blood products to patients who entrust their care to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
The partnership between LifeServe and Knoxville Hospital and Clinics allows residents and community members the opportunity to save lives in their neighborhood. As a community-based blood center, LifeServe only hosts blood drives in the communities where that blood will go back into the area hospitals. Mikayla Niemeier with Lifeserve says these blood products are crucial.
“People don’t think about it until the moment that someone they know needs it. At that point it takes a process to get the blood to the hospital. That is why we need donors coming in. Blood has an expiration date too which I think people don’t realize. Red blood cells expire after 42 days so it’s really important that we have people consistently donating every two months.”
