The Newton School District has been awarded a $10,000 grant that must go to assist homeless students and their families. Tim Bloom, the school district’s Director of Business Services, says the money will be spent at West Academy and the food pantry there.
“We are using that to expand our offerings over the summer. We are getting a new refrigerator as well as clothing, diapers, and some hygiene products that are listed as part of the grant.”
West Academy is the Newton School District’s alternative high school. It’s at the back of the EJH Beard District Office on 1st Avenue West. The $10,000 grant is from the Iowa Department of Education’s Homeless Children and Youth Resource Mini Hub Grant Program.
