Newton is a thriving community in the eyes of the Iowa Finance Authority and Iowa Economic Development Agency. They have selected Newton for the City’s efforts to improve housing. Newton Mayor Evelyn George says housing has been a City priority in recent years.

“And that was recognized a little over 10 years ago when no new houses were built in Newton. The City Council really decided to dive into that.”

Other communities receiving the 2025 designation include Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Mason City, and Waterloo
