The Knoxville Police Department is reminding the community of back to school safety as kids head back to the classroom on Monday.
Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller says to be aware of busy traffic near the schools before school from 7:30 am – 8:00 am and after school from 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm as many parents will be picking up their students. Fuller also encourages parents to talk to their kids about walking on sidewalks if they walk to school to stay safe. Fuller says that community members always need to be following the law when it relates to school buses as well.
“Any time that a school bus has its flashing lights on and their stop sign is out you should not be passing that bus. Whether you’re coming from behind the bus or you’re passing the bus coming from the opposite direction. It’s very important to stop because when those kids get off the school bus they should have a few moments of safety to get where they’re going.”
