A suspicious vehicle complaint investigated by Newton Police has led to a third drug conviction for a Pella man. Jasper County District Court records show 42-year-old Danny Gene Petro pleaded guilty to 3rd offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class D Felony. This past Monday, District Court Judge Terry Rickers sentenced Petro to a suspended 15 year prison term, three years of probation, and a $1,025 fine. Just before 8 p.m. on July 3rd of this year, Newton Police received a report of a car parked on the side of North 2nd Avenue East. The complainant said people were going up to the vehicle and exchanging items, possibly drugs. The police report states Newton officers found Petro in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and a glass marijuana pipe was in plain view. He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. But then officers found a ziplock baggie containing just under a gram of meth was found in Petro’s pocket. Court records show the Pella man has prior Possession of Controlled Substance convictions from May 2013 in Jasper County and September of 2019 in Marion County.
