Those hitting the waters of Lake Red Rock for the final time this summer during the Labor Day weekend are reminded to continue practicing safe boating habits. Park Ranger Tracy Spry says Labor Day is one of the busiest times of the year on the lake, and reminds all who plan to enjoy the water to wear a life jacket.

“Especially if you’re taking a lot of extra passengers out on your boat, make sure that you have enough life jackets that fit those individuals on board. Anybody under the age of 13 has to wear their life jacket when their boat is underway, and if they’re 13 or over the life jackets have to be readily accessible.”

Additionally, those boating should be mindful of their surroundings and ensure their safety gear is still in good shape before venturing off shore. Hear more from Tracy Spry on an upcoming In Touch with South Central Iowa.
