A Newton man facing felony charges for allegedly stealing a car and threatening a deputy after a short pursuit has entered three guilty pleas. Jasper County District Court documents state 37 year old Kirk Robert Williams pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, 1st degree harassment, and eluding. He’s being held without bond pending a sentencing hearing October 22nd. Court records show Williams already has two prior felony convictions for both operating a vehicle without consent and eluding. The criminal complaint connected to his latest charges states Williams stole a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta Sport from Newton June 15th of this year. He was arrested later that day when a Jasper County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for no front license plate on Highway 14 near Laurel. The deputy said Williams attempted to flee, but did eventually stop. He also allegedly threatened to physically harm the deputy.
