The Norwalk High School fall sports season surges into high gear this week as all five Warrior teams are set to compete at least once.
The Norwalk boys golf team, which opened the season last week with a tournament and a dual, will play in three tournaments this week. The Warriors are part of the field at today’s Johnston Invitational at Jester Park Golf Course. They will compete in the Fort Dodge Invitational on Tuesday and will be in another tournament on Thursday at the Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk.
The Warrior girls and boys cross country teams are scheduled to open the season at Tuesday’s Ankeny Centennial Invite on Ankeny’s DMACC campus. The 9th and 10th grade girls race will start at 5:00 p.m., followed by the 9th and 10th boys at 5:40, the 11th and 12th grade girls at 6:20 and the 11th and 12th boys at 7:00. The Warriors boys are fifth in the IATC’s Class 4A preseason rankings.
The Class 4A 10th-ranked Norwalk volleyball team will have a busy first week of the season, starting with Tuesday night’s home game against 5A 2nd-ranked Dowling Catholic. The Warriors will take on Southeast Polk, Humboldt and Indianola in Thursday’s Southeast Polk Quad, then play in the Ankeny Centennial Tournament on Saturday.
The Norwalk football team opens their season at home on Friday night, hosting Warren County rival Carlisle. The annual War-Cat Trophy game kicks off at 7:30.
