Holterhaus finished her time with the storied UNI volleyball team in 2023 in the NCAA tournament. Emily is the program record holder in career attack attempts (4,771), fourth in career kills (1,631), sixth in career points (1,867) and second in both sets played (561) and matches played (156), never missing a contest. Holterhaus also joined the UNI Women’s Basketball team mid-season after her time in volleyball ended.
Emily was a four-year standout athlete for the Pella Dutch, racking up All-State Honors in volleyball, basketball, and track, and leading Pella to four consecutive state volleyball tournament appearances. She cleared 1,500 career kills in volleyball and 1,000 points in basketball, and was a member of the state record-breaking shuttle hurdle relay team as a freshman.
