The #6 in class 5A Indianola volleyball team was reverse swept by #3 Ankeny Centennial Monday night in their season opener 3-2., while the Indianola boys golf team finished in eighth place at Johnston with a team score of 307 on Monday.
The volleyball squad won their first two sets 25-19 and 25-14 to seemingly be in full control of the match, then went up 20-15 in the third set to look to close it out with a sweep, however the Jaguars rallied to win the third set 27-25, then the fourth set in close fashion 25-23. In the fifth and final set, Indianola had a 12-10 lead, but the Jaguars scored five straight to earn the win.
Indianola is now 0-1 on the season, and continues non-conference action Thursday in a triangular with Norwalk and Southeast Polk.
The Indianola golfers were led by Jackson Buchanan who shot a 71 to finish in fourth place overall, with Tyler Santi earning 10th place carding a 73. Gio Richardson shot an 80, while Ryker Burgin shot an 83 to round out the top scores. The Indians next hit the links Thursday in Norwalk.
