The Knoxville School Board and the Knoxville Alumni Association discussed the future of Ken Locke Stadium Monday night.
The two parties are currently under a five-year agreement, where the school district will maintain the property while the alumni association, or Save Our Stadium (SOS) committee, raises the funds to turn the property into something that will benefit the community. At a previous school board meeting, the SOS committee requested a lease agreement for the property where they could use the old football stadium when they wanted to hold fundraising events. This did not move forward.
The SOS committee and the school district held a work session at the meeting Monday, and talked about the potential of selling the property to the SOS committee in the future. The committee shared their concerns about not being able to maintain the property themselves. No action was taken, but the SOS committee and board both expressed interest in getting the property appraised in the future. Both parties are expected to have further work sessions or discussions in the future. Also at the meeting the board approved two open enrollment requests, a proposal for a district auditor, and the board discussed the potential of the Knoxville High School Advanced Manufacturing class to build a new archway for Randy Wilson Track.
