The Newton Volleyball team starts the season tonight hosting their own Cardinal Early Bird Invitational at Newton High School. After two scrimmages and two weeks of practice, Coach Heidi Woollums is looking forward to seeing what her players can do in matches that count.

“Playing the same team, JV versus Varsity…JV versus Varsity, you start to know each other’s tendencies. Once you get that other team on the opposite side of the net it’s fun to see what the girls can do. What you have worked on and how they take it and put it into the play they do.”

The Cardinals welcome three 3 other teams to Newton High School’s Upper Gym this evening, with matches beginning at 4:30 p.m.. The opponents are Heart of Iowa Conference members PCM and Saydel, along with Des Moines Hoover from the Alliance Conference.
