The City of Knoxville has provided an update on the street improvement project.

The street improvement project is being completed in three stages. Stage two of the project (3rd to 5th Street) has been closed and concrete removal has started taking place. A new sanitary manhole at the intersection of 5th Street and connections north, south and east have been made. In stage one (1st to 2nd Street) all storm sewer manholes have been completed. Windstream has also completed their necessary repairs to the damaged duct bank.

Over the next few weeks crews intend to complete the final storm sewer pipe installation for stage one and begin subgrade prep. Once subgrade prep is complete it will be on to paving. In stage two the by-pass pumping will be removed at both locations, the sanitary sewer mainline and majority of service lines will be installed. According to the city website, phase one and two are still scheduled to be completed by the end of November with Phase three starting in April of 2025.
