The full roof replacement on the Newton Public Library is finished. Library Director Nicole Terry says she’s awaiting the final paperwork on the $772,000 project. Once that’s in, the Newton City Council can approve the final payment to Hopkins Roofing in Pella. The company was awarded the replacement contract in December 2022, and installed a standing seam metal roof. Terry notes the color of the massive new roof is exactly the same as the original.
“We are a full city block, and two-thirds of that is taken up with a roof. It’s very pretty and very blue. I kept getting asked if it was still going to be blue. Yes, it’s the same color that was put on 30 years ago”
The original roof had leaking problems that staff had to deal with ever since the library was built.
