The first in-person public informational meeting about the Jasper County Secondary Roads Department Bond referendum was held in Prairie City late this week. The Thursday night event at the Prairie City Community Building allowed residents to get information and ask questions about the proposed $6,400,000 bond issue. The election is November 5th. If passed by voters, the revenue generated would pay for a new Secondary Roads maintenance building and shop. County Board of Supervisors Chairman Brandon Talsma has said passage of the referendum will not cause a tax increase. Instead, the general obligation bonds or capital loan notes would replace debt that’s coming off the county’s books. The next in-person town hall meeting will occur at 6:30 p.m. September 19th at Lynnville City Hall.
