summer-reading

This summer was a record breaker at the Newton Public Library. Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter says 823 kids participated in the summer reading program.

“And we actually had over 400 kids finish. So 50% completion rate is really good. We usually are at about 30%. When they finished they got two tickets to an Iowa Cubs Home Run Reader Game, coupons for a Culver’s Kids meal and a kid’s meal at Hardees. Really nice finishing prizes.”

On-going throughout the year at the Newton Public Library are storytimes. Baby Storytime for newborns to 18 months is at 10 a.m, on Mondays. Toddler storytime for children 18 to 36 months is on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.. Preschool Story time for 3 to 5 year olds is at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays.
