The Knights of Columbus in Pella are continuing to raise funds for their annual campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.
The campaign helps support the Pella and Pella Christian Special Education Departments, Christian Opportunity Center, 818 Forward with Faith, and Iowa Special Olympics. Additionally, the Knights have also supported Wonder Spelen in making improvements at the Kiwanis Park Playground. The Pella City Council recently approved a partnership with Wonder Spelen to fund up to $150,000 for the third phase of improvements at the all-inclusive play area. Wonder Spelen is fundraising for the difference of these upgrades, with the overall cost estimated at $300,000. Mark Wiskus with Wonder Spelen says that they are grateful for the Knights’ efforts to help with the project.
“They have been a huge supporter with physical labor or manual labor, they’ve come in and helped us with this project. So they are very hands on with the Wonder Spelen project. Their mission and our mission fits very well together with intellectual disabilities and we have the same mindset and the same mission of helping those kids, helping with adaptive equipment, and they are all about it just like we are and it makes for a very good partnership.”
