The Red Carpet Motel in Knoxville has been shut down until further notice after a fire inspection.
On August 29th, a joint inspection was conducted by the Knoxville Fire Department, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Iowa Department of Inspections, and Appeals Hotel Safety and License Inspectors. This inspection was a result of complaints received by the State Fire Marshal’s Office during the Knoxville Nationals.
The findings were significant. All parties present determined that the building needed to placarded, and all tenants removed from the property until code violations are corrected.
The Fire Department, City, and State Inspectors will be working with the property owner to bring the building into compliance with fire and life safety code of ordinances.
