The City of Indianola presented a proposed plan for the future of public buildings at the Tuesday Indianola City Council meeting, titled “Vision 2030.” City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News challenges including price, location, and more had made the city rethink their plan for a public bond issue this fall that would have provided funding for a City Hall/Public Safety building. Reeves said a possible proposal includes a split for the Indianola Fire Department and Indianola City Hall, as the Fire Department needs a facility to operate out of during any construction period, and a main focus for City Hall was keeping it in the downtown area.
“We aren’t sure if we need to be stuck in the mindset of needing to keep all of City Hall downtown, because when we start dealing with a lot of fire trucks, a lot of turning radiuses, the square footage necessary to support a Fire Department, that can be pretty impactful to the downtown area. So taking one component out of the mix really gives us a lot of elbow room to make the rest of City Hall possible. But then again, every option is on the table and being discussed right now, and we are looking at all of our assets as a city to make sure we build in the best possible location for our community.”
Reeves said the plan is very fluid and in the early planning stages, and will have ample time for feedback from the council and community. Hear more on today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
